All horses BORN January 1, 2026, and after—including mares, stallions, and geldings—must be DNA tested before they can be registered. The prior rule will remain in effect for mares; any mare born in 2015 or later is required to undergo DNA testing. This decision was made by the BDHCA Board of Directors during their December 2025 meeting to ensure that all foals are tested at the time of registration.
The fee for DNA testing foals is $30. If you wish to complete a JEB test at the time of registration, the cost is an additional $45. Choosing to conduct the JEB test at a later date will increase the fee to $65. It is important to remember that all breeding stallions must be JEB tested before any of their foals can be registered.
Please include the $30 fee for DNA testing with registrations, a DNA kit will be sent back to you. Do NOT send hair directly to the office. DNA kits cannot be ordered until fees are paid. Not including the fee will delay your horse getting registered. Please keep in mind that DNA results take 2 weeks to process once received by the lab. It is important to get registrations sent in early to ensure they are done before sale consignment due dates.
